We were received by the Matron-in-charge of the home (Mrs Diana Henry) who welcomed us warmly in company of two staff members and about 20 children. After a brief introduction of the visitors to the children, Dr. Akpabio A. Akpabio spoke for about five minutes on the “NOT FORGOTTEN” program of Global Image Foundation Inc. (GIF). He thanked the Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs for approving the visit and highlighted GIF’s mission in encouraging people to make impact by taking proactive steps in their communities. He appreciated the GIF board members for their kind donation as well as the volunteers - (Barr. Ido Udofia and Dr. Imaobong Mkpah) for collaborating with GIF to make the event a success. One of the volunteers, Barr. Ido Udofia expressed her joy at the event and encouraged the children to believe in their potentials despite any apparent disadvantages from their background. The children were also further motivated by the immediate-past Doctor in charge of the home (Dr Imaobong Mkpah) who remarked that she was part and parcel of the home and was honoured to have done her national youth service at the orphanage. The children sang a special welcome song and prayed for the visitors. They also had the opportunity to briefly with the visiting team in a short interactive session. The highlight of the visit was the presentation of food and laundry items to the Matron of the home and a representative of the children. Mrs. Dinah Henry gave the closing remarks thanking the visitors for their generous donation and encouraged others to support government’s efforts in running the home. She recounted the success stories of two former inmates of the home – one a recent University graduate and the other – a successful business owner. She ended her speech by admonishing the children to be worthy ambassadors of the home.
